1. 表示特指某个（些）人或物或上文中已经提到的那个（些）人或物。例如：
The girl in a red sweater is my sister. 穿红毛衣的那个女孩是我妹妹。
The watch that he bought yesterday is broken. 他昨天买的那块表坏了。
There is a boy in the computer room. The boy is playing games there.微机室里有一个男孩，这个男孩正在玩电脑游戏。

2. 表示双方都知道的人或物。例如：
Please close the door, Li Ping. 李明，请把门关上。

3. 与单数名词连用初一英语练习题表示一类事物。例如：
